L2 GOLF OPS / ABOUT

I’m still the guy wearing 10 hats.

From the clubhouse to the course, with a background in technology. Firsthand experience across the operation and a practical approach to getting projects done.

Hey, I’m Chris.

I’m Chris McMillan, founder of L2 Golf Ops and the current general manager of Columbus Country Club in Wisconsin.

I know how quickly the day fills up. I’m still managing staff, answering questions behind the counter, coordinating events, and keeping the operation moving.

But my experience isn’t limited to the clubhouse. I’ve worked hands-on as a member of a golf course grounds crew, and in my current GM role, I’ve taken on many of the responsibilities normally handled by a golf course superintendent.

That includes working through irrigation issues, coordinating maintenance priorities, supporting grounds staff, and helping make decisions that affect course conditions.

Add in more than a decade working in IT, and I’ve developed a pretty broad understanding of how golf operations, maintenance, business systems, and technology all fit together.

That’s the perspective I bring to L2 Golf Ops. Practical help from someone who’s still doing the work.

I’ve worked both sides of the counter.

When you’re managing a smaller golf course, there isn’t always someone else to handle technology, marketing, reporting, course maintenance issues, or the projects you’ve been meaning to get to.

You’re checking in golfers, managing employees, organizing outings, answering member questions, dealing with vendors, and trying to make sure the numbers work.

Meanwhile, out on the course, the maintenance team is juggling its own priorities, whether that’s irrigation, turf conditions, equipment, or getting the course ready for play.

I’ve worked in both environments, and I’m still involved in both.

I’ve managed tee sheets and POS systems, organized leagues and tournaments, worked through staffing and operational challenges, built websites, improved reporting, and helped implement new processes.

My grounds and maintenance experience has also shown me how decisions made in one department can affect the rest of the facility.

I know how quickly projects that could make everyone’s job easier end up at the bottom of the list.

A little about my background.

My experience stretches across golf operations, course maintenance, technology, and organized golf. Each has given me a different perspective on how a facility operates.

Why I started L2 Golf Ops.

I started L2 because I believe smaller golf courses deserve access to the kind of operations and technology support that larger facilities often have available internally.

Not another consultant who shows up, hands you a report, and disappears.

I wanted to build something more practical: a service grounded in firsthand golf course experience.

I’ve seen how the clubhouse, maintenance operation, financial decisions, and technology systems all affect one another. That’s why I try to understand the entire operation before recommending a change.

That might mean improving how you use your tee sheet, getting better information from your reporting, updating your website, cleaning up a process that’s frustrating your staff, or helping implement a system you’ve been putting off.

The goal isn’t to add more work to your plate.

It’s to help take some of it off.

How I work.

I’m not looking to take over your operation or tell you how to run your golf course.

Every facility is different. The first step is understanding how yours operates today, what you’re trying to accomplish, and what’s getting in the way.

From there, we’ll agree on a manageable project, establish clear expectations, and work toward a useful result.

That means practical implementation, communication along the way, and documentation your team can actually use after the project is finished.

L2 Golf Ops is based in Wisconsin and provides scheduled onsite and remote support depending on the needs of the engagement.

Let’s talk golf.

Have a project that’s been sitting on your list for months? I’d love to hear about it.

No complicated sales pitch. Just a conversation about your course, what you’re working on, and whether I can help.
